Social Media Coordinator

The Polis Center at IUPUI is seeking a talented individual who wants to make a difference. In this role, you will be promoting the SAVI Community Information System (SAVI), a free online data resource which helps nonprofit organizations, academia, and government agencies improve strategic planning and programming efforts. Your primary goal is to increase the visibility and awareness of SAVI.

In short, SAVI engages organizations by:

  • Identifying their data and information needs
  • Providing reliable, up-to-date facts about social, economic, and physical conditions of communities in Central Indiana and the Indianapolis Metro Area
  • Helping organizations interpret this information and use it for more effective decision-making, proposal writing, storytelling, and identifying gaps in service

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop frequent content about the SAVI community information system and its related digital tools for various social media platforms to help expand digital visibility and reach, grow digital audiences and engage new followers, and contribute toward online community development. We have SAVI presence on: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.
  • Regularly monitor and engage in social media activity using dashboards like Hootsuite, Sprout Social, and Buffer (for Twitter).
  • Prepare and present social media analytics reports monthly to measure results against objectives.
  • Assist in writing website blog posts as needed.
  • Participate in project and brainstorming sessions and other assignments as directed.

Qualifications

  • Writing, editing, and communication expertise. Students majoring in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic understanding of communication and marketing practices
  • Knack for digital communications and social media platforms (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Instagram)
  • Curiosity and strong research aptitude
  • Good organizational skills
  • Creative, think “outside the box”
  • Working knowledge of search engine keywords and optimization
  • Take initiative while having the ability to work as part of a team
  • Competent in using MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite design application a plus

Available opportunity at SAVI: Data and Analytics Research Associate

The Polis Center at IUPUI (Polis) is a unit of the IUPUI School of Liberal Arts dedicated to using collaboration, interdisciplinary research, and knowledge of spatial technologies to provide reliable information, thoughtful perspective, and creative solutions for the improvement of communities in Indiana and beyond.

Polis seeks an experienced candidate to fill the position of Data and Analytics Research Associate.   The Data and Analytics Research Associate supports data collection, analysis, and dissemination efforts. This involves identifying and evaluating data sources for quality, reliability, and appropriateness and migrating and integrating datasets as needed for analysis.  The successful candidate will also assist in the design of data collection and analysis efforts with a focus on preventing redundancies, improving quality, and developing systems to support longitudinal data collection and analysis.

Experience creating data visualizations and developing reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content for both public and academic audiences is required.   Candidates must have the ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment, work independently, manage relationships with Polis staff members, show good judgment, and seek out support or guidance where appropriate.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop protocols, tools, and documentation to support data collection, aggregation and analysis;
  • Continually explore and implement ways to improve Polis data collection efforts to maximize efficiency and minimize the burden on staff members;
  • Access and integrate third party data into consolidated databases, using appropriate methods to maximize data quality and integrity.
  • Develop performance indicator reports and create data indices for use in research and analysis.
  • Prepare standard and customized charts, maps, and graphics for websites, standing reports, and specialized presentations to visually communicate the data significance to a variety of audiences.
  • Work with external users to effectively access, use, and share information from these sources;
  • Support Polis communications efforts through provision of high quality data, materials and graphics in a timely and consistent fashion;
  • Use GIS and mapping platforms for spatial analysis and map creation

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or higher degree required;
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills required; qualitative analysis skill highly desirable;
  • Experience with database management and working with large datasets from disparate local, state, and federal sources, including census, American Community Survey, and other community-level data sets
  • Knowledge of appropriate statistical analysis and data visualization software. Knowledge of GIS and mapping platforms a plus;
  • Knowledge of SQL. Understanding of basic Extract, Transform and Load concepts is a plus;
  • Strong statistical and communication skills and customer service orientation;
  • Excellent data visualization skills, project management skills, and attention to detail;
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a project team, and demonstrates initiative.

Available opportunity at SAVI: Senior Research Analyst

The Polis Center at IUPUI (Polis) is a unit of the IUPUI School of Liberal Arts dedicated to using collaboration, interdisciplinary research, and knowledge of spatial technologies to provide reliable information, thoughtful perspective, and creative solutions for the improvement of communities in Indiana and beyond.

Polis seeks an experienced candidate to fill the position of Senior Research Analyst.   The Senior Research Analyst will help to design a broad range of applied community-based research projects.   This position also will interact with community groups to provide information and to build community capacity to make positive change.  Internally, this position will have a lead role in planning and executing higher-level analyses and will mentor other analyst staff.

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for assisting in the design and implementation of applied research projects and must be experienced at collecting, evaluating, managing, and analyzing spatial and non-spatial data in both quantitative and qualitative formats; preparing statistical analyses; creating data visualizations; and developing reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content for both public and academic audiences.  This position is accountable for managing internal resources and working with external data providers and vendors as required to meet research and project objectives within a fast-paced, multi-project environment.

This position will work with other staff analysts to insure they have the specific skills necessary to complete a project and will mentor graduate interns.

 Qualifications:

  • Minimum of master’s degree in a social science (e.g., geography, sociology, demography, etc.), spatial science, urban planning, or other fields related to the center’s work. PhD preferred.
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills required; qualitative analysis skill highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in applied community research or evaluation projects.
  • Experience in program- and community-level outcome measurement, program evaluation, intervention effectiveness studies, community needs and assets assessments, and/or management, analysis, and visualization of large administrative and survey datasets.
  • Knowledge of appropriate statistical and data visualization software. Knowledge of SQL is a plus, as is knowledge of GIS.
  • Effective oral and written communication of research findings.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a project team.
